Tuesday, June 29th - The beautiful butterfly

I really like the butterfly. It was simple to make and pretty cute. Unfortunately, I then went ahead and folded the instructions, so if I ever want to make it again Ill have to unfold something else to find out how....

Monday, June 28th - The bear mask

I had to fold the next few days of origami in advance as i am currently in the process of moving house so had to pack the calendar away. Todays origami was a bear mask. I cant remember the exact details, but all I know is that it doesnt look like I did a very good job....

Friday, June 25th, Saturday June 26th and Sunday June 27th - The starlight kite

I know, Im doing this one unusually early but its cleaning and packing weekend this weekend so I really needed to get procrastinating out of the way.
What is a starlight kite? what is the difference between a starlight kite and a sunlight kite? Why does origami suddenly require glue? The third question requires an explanation. The instructions require glue, I do not own glue. Therefore I could not complete the kite. When you look at the picture, you will notice that it is a picture of an unfolded piece of paper. That is because I do not own glue.

Thursday, June 24th - The kangaroo.

I didnt do well again. I got confused between the arms and the legs and then I just decided to fold it and see how it went. Since it looked a little bit like a kangaroo I left it at that.

Wednesday, June 23rd - The dog house

The dog house annoyed me. Its supposed to end up looking like a dog in its kennel but mine just looked stupid. I have a headache and im presenting at a seminar tomorrow. Potentially not the best time to do origami??

Tuesday, June 22nd - His and her shirts

Somehow, my his and her shirts ended up being backwards. The larger his shirt is in front of the smaller her shirt.
The shirts are hawaiian shirts, which means the guy picked them because I dont know many girls who would happily wear a hawaiian shirt.

Monday, June 21st - The pendant

The instructions for the pendant start off simple enought, but by the end of it you dont think you can possible understand so many arrows in such a small space. However, it turns out it wasnt that difficult. Apart from my laziness making me unable to actually make sure i fold things precisely, i think I did pretty well

Sunday 20 June 2010

Friday, June 18th, Saturday June 19th and Sunday June 20th - The crown

The crown was again simple, quite neat but waaaay too small for a head. Its also kind of a weird foreign looking crown. The crown is designed to go on a father's day card where you draw a picture of a man and put a crown on it and call your father the king for a day. But see, I think that fathers get the raw end of the deal. Mothers get flowers and chocolates. Fathers i would assume would want car related things and beer. Not crowns.

Thursday, June 17th - The seal

I like this week's origami. Its simple and it kind of works. I say kind of because at most angles, my seal looks like the loch ness monster.

Wednesday, June 16th - The flipping horse

Now, Ill admit I went into this task very pessimistic. The instructions indicated that at the end of folding my horse would be able to flip. Since none of my creations so far have been able to do that you would understand why i really wasnt feeling it.
So I folded. And then I tried to flip. The horse flips!!!!! It really does!!! And to prove it i put a video in.

Tuesdaym, June 15th - the sea turtle

The sea turtle was horrifying. Not because it was insanely difficult, no. The folds were actually all very straight forward. What was horrifying was that halfway through I got completely lost as to what I was actually folding and was just folding mechanically. Some would argue that that's good, because you become objective and it should come out better. That doesnt seem to be the case. For reference, in the picture, the turtle's head is supposedly on the right. It is not supposed to have a tail.

Monday, June 14th - The sitting eagle

I love easy origami. The sitting eagle is nice and easy. No complicated folds, just straight forward sense. I think the reason I was folding an eagle today is because it's flag day in the USA. According to my reliable source (Wikipedia), flag day celebrates the day the USA got their flag. The term wikipedia use is to "adopt" a flag, but all i can think about when i see adopt is kittens and puppies (more kittens than puppies).
Anyway.
Ill admit the nails are not particularly america, but its world cup time and I like themed nails.

Sunday 13 June 2010

Friday, June 11th, Saturday, June 12th and Sunday June 13th - The big gulper

Im not sure what a big gulper is, but i enjoyed making it. It uses two bits of paper and makes something thats supposed to have teeth and a big mouth. I couldnt work out how to join the two bits together though so I ended up just holding them together for the picture. It does kind of look like something with teeth and a big mouth

Thursday 10 June 2010

Thursday, June 10th - The happy/mad dragon

I failed. I was following the instructions and suddenly it stopped looking like what it was supposed to look like.I cant quite work out what ive done wrong. I may try again later on this week but for now im distracted by other things like going to london in 10 minutes to go see bon jovi at the o2 arena.
Also something might have been distracting me when I was doing the origami. I had someone looking over my shoulder the whole time. it wasnt helpful.
No picture.

Wednesday 9 June 2010

Wednesday, June 9th - Cheap sunglasses

Todays task, cheap sunglasses, is predicatbly something that has triggered a bit of a rant in my head. For one the finished product is way too small for even a baby head. And on top of that theyre not really sunglasses, theyre sun blocking devices. The sun can definitely not pass through them, so they would be pointless for endeavours such as driving...

Tuesday 8 June 2010

Tuesdaym June 8th - The roadrunner

Another nice straight forward one. It started with a bird base, which I used to not like but now it doesnt bother me too much. And i think it kind of looks like the road runner. Although i did give it freaky eyes.

Monday 7 June 2010

Monday, June 7th - The monitor lizard

The monitor lizard is another origami creation that required a picture of the actual thing for comparison:
Now Im not going to slam the design, because a four year old girl did this and Im actually feeling nice today. It was a nice easy little thing to make. i cant say much more because I might be mean and im trying not to be today.

Saturday 5 June 2010

Friday June 4th, Saturday June 5th and Sunday June6th - The dragonfly

The dragonfly was complicated. One instruction in particular made me want to throw my calendar out of the window: "Bring flaps up, under top flap, and open them". It took me a while to decipher it.
With some guesswork and some cool calm collected thought, I managed to fold something that could look like a dragonfly, if you squint a little

Thursday, June 3rd - The paloma

I tried to google paloma to find out what it was. I was unable to get a clear answer.
The folding was actually really nice and simple, and gives a satisying result. If i could be bothered I'd learn to do it off by heart but I cant. Ive already folded to instructions into the next origami... It caused an issue because I forgot what this origami was called and had to try and find the name on the finished version of tomorrow's origami...

Wednesday 2 June 2010

Wednesday, June 2nd - Coaster 2

Coaster 2 is coaster 1 with an extra fold on each side. I redid the whole thing because I thought it would be a nice non-lazy thing to do. Sooooo not worth it. On top of that my coaster doesnt look very good because for some reason the points are supposed to meet in the middle and mine dont.
Never mind.

Tuesday 1 June 2010

Tuesday, June 1st - Coaster 1

Surprisingly, I didn't have too much trouble folding this coaster. A month ago, I think I would have had enormous amounts of trouble. Luckily, in the past month, I have acquired vast experience folding The Annoying Fold That I Can Never Fold Right (three valley folds, two mountain folds combined with a valley fold, fold under and squash, all at the same time....).
This coaster is basically made entirely of That Fold. I managed quite well I think.
Unfortunately for the coaster, my version of coasters is old post-its I havent thrown away yet. I have no need for fancier folded versions.
